Sometimes people only ever need a listening ear and to know that your there to listen is a help in its self. But you can learn too have empathy, if somebody comes to you with a problem, let them talk and then recall a time that you have had in a similar way to them and how you dealt with said problem. It helps to open up the communication and the other person can feel relieved that somebody else
